Sono stati eseguiti e sono in corso molteplici studi comparativi per stile, per tratto, per iconografia, per parametri geometrici, per tesi più o meno accreditate dal mondo accademico, con opere e disegni di Leonardo e della sua bottega, al fine ed in ausilio di pervenire ad una possibile individuazione dell'autore del disegno "il Ritratto di Lecco"
